Manqoba Nxumalo was released after being briefly questioned at the Manzini regional police headquarters, apparently because the police did not wish to hold a journalist. Nxumalo told The Daily Maverick that he had not been mistreated by the police, and had seen no abuse of protesters who had been picked up with him, although there had been altercations at the time of the arrests. The arrests were apparently at random.

Daily Maverick correspondent Manqoba Nxumalo has just been arrested, along with 15 trade unionists. He says he has seen some people being tortured. No other information is currently available.

More than 100 people have been detained in Swaziland as police there round up pro-democracy protesters.

Campaign spokesperson Mary Pais de Silva said some busses travelling to Manzini have been stopped by police and people have been prevented from going to the town.
“We have people being arrested and deprived of their cellphones and issues like that. Whichever few people that will make it to Manzini in one piece, we are determined to proceed with the march,” she said.

Police have camped at the University of Swaziland Kwaluseni campus. They are not allowed to leave. This amounts to Campus Arrest.

More than 150 Swazi police guarded the square [in Manzini] where pro-democracy protesters had planned to demonstrate Tuesday, rounding up and detaining anyone standing in groups.
