FW de Klerk själv om Steget den 2 feb 1990

Intervju i Financial Times den 22 januari 2010:

Lunch with the FT: FW de Klerk, av Alec Russell. Utdrag:

De Klerk does not encourage the romantic media line of granite Afrikaner having “road to Damascus” experience and suddenly recognising the evil of apartheid. It was a gradual process, he insists. By the mid-1980s he had “reached the final conclusion” that apartheid was “unjust towards the majority of the population”. That was rather late in the day, I suggest. He stresses the word “final” and says his reappraisal of apartheid was a long process.

Text i iol den 2 februari 2010:

The game changers, av FW de Klerk. Utdrag:

The whole period between 1948 and 1994 is generally regarded as "the era of apartheid" which is seen as an undifferentiated time of white racial domination, repression and exploitation. Accordingly, the only explanation for the 180-degree volte-face of February 2, 1990, is that it must have been the result of somekind of quasi-religious epiphany. In fact there were enormous developments in National Party policy between 1948 and 1994.
